TBKWatch Update: Storms, MVAs and Invites

Hi Neighbours!

It’s been a week of wild weather, swinging from severe storms to sudden heat. However, the elements haven’t stopped us from hitting the streets, staying active on the beat, and keeping the neighbourhood moving. So, sit back, relax, and read up on all the latest happenings in TBKLand right here.

🌬️1. Winds and Weather

When a severe cut-off low battered the Cape of Storms last Thursday, it brought no shortage of chaos. Our Operations Manager jumped into action, heading to Vredehoek to back up DPVwatch after a roof blew off a house on Derry Street. While returning from that scene with a fellow patroller, they encountered Varsity Road completely blocked by fallen trees. Enter an amazing neighbour with a chainsaw! Working together, they carved a path through the timber and partially reopened the road. We want to extend our deep gratitude to the City teams and armed response companies who braved the weather to provide crucial storm relief.

💥2. HMVA on Kloof Nek

On Friday, a call came through regarding a Heavy Motor Vehicle Accident (HMVA) at the corner of Kloof Nek and Burnside. Our Operations Manager responded to the scene, finding a truck pinned against a wall—though thankfully, not through it. Upon further investigation, it became clear the incident had actually started further up at Gilmour Hill Road before the truck came to a rest at the bottom. WatchCom immediately notified emergency resources, including Fire and Rescue and Traffic Services, who arrived shortly after. We are incredibly relieved to report that no injuries were sustained, and the roadway was quickly cleared of obstructions.

📅3. NHW Mass Info Session

This past Saturday, representatives from TBKWatch and DPVwatch attended the city-wide neighbourhood watch information session hosted by Alderman JP Smith. To make the updates easy to digest, the DPVwatch Exco Member for Communications kindly summarised the session into the poster below:
