Street Camera Monitoring Project FAQs
Thank you for your interest in the TBKWatch Camera Project. We’re delighted to have you on board.
Below you’ll find answers to the questions we hear most often, followed by a short information form — completing it helps us prepare a tailored recommendation for your property.
What is the TBKWatch Camera Project?
It’s a neighbourhood-wide CCTV initiative that links private residential cameras into a single monitored network. Your camera protects your home – and simultaneously helps protect the street around it. The project runs through TBKWatch, Tamboerskloof’s Neighbourhood Watch, in partnership with Fidelity-ADT.
How does the monitoring work?
All connected cameras feed into WatchCom, a dedicated control room serving the City Bowl NHW area. Smart software flags suspicious behaviour and raises an instant alert. When a threat is confirmed, response is deployed immediately – including TBK1, our dedicated area-bound TBKWatch vehicle.
What cameras do you recommend?
Most properties use 2–4 MP Hikvision fixed cameras positioned at key angles – driveway, pavement, side passages, street-facing walls. For wider coverage we recommend 180° panoramic cameras. We guide you on what fits your property; no guessing, no overspending.
What camera packages are available?
We offer three Fidelity ADT packages, all inclusive of supply and installation:
- Kit 1 (1 camera)
- Kit 2 (2 cameras)
- Kit 3 (4 cameras)
All kits use Hikvision 4MP DarkFighter IP67 cameras. If your property requires additional work on site – such as an inverter for power backup or extensive cabling – this will be assessed during the site visit and quoted separately before any work begins.
Who does the installation?
A We work exclusively with approved installers who know Tamboerskloof and understand how to integrate correctly with the TBKWatch network. They stand behind their work and do it right the first time.
I already have cameras - can I connect them to the network?
Quite possibly, yes. Compatibility depends on the brand, model, and how they’re connected. Once you complete the information form below, we’ll confirm whether your existing equipment can be integrated or whether any upgrades are needed.
I live in an apartment - does this apply to me?
Yes. Individual apartment owners can participate, and we also work with body corporates and trustees to implement building-wide camera solutions. Both options connect to the same monitored network.
What are the two layers of the network?
Layer 1 is LPR (Licence Plate Recognition) cameras at the edges of the neighbourhood – every plate entering Tamboerskloof is checked in real time against a shared database covering 150+ neighbourhoods.
Layer 2 is CCTV cameras on streets and private properties, all feeding the same control room.
