Thieves caught in the act

Fidelity ADT officers nabbed a man who was in possession of suspected house-breaking implements on Tuesday June 5. This is the fifth arrest in the area in recent weeks.

The Fidelity ADT district manager, Jade Hanning, said when they received a call about a person loitering at parked cars in Hillside Road on Tuesday morning, two armed response officers were dispatched to the area.

On arrival, they saw a man matching the description given to them. He tried to run away but was cornered.

“Our officers searched the suspect and found house-breaking implements in his possession. They also later discovered that one of the parked vehicles where he was spotted loitering earlier showed signs of tampering and an obvious attempt to gain access to the vehicle.”

The man was taken into custody by Cape Town police and charged with attempted theft out of a motor vehicle as well as possession of housebreaking implements.

This arrest is the latest in a series of events in and around Tamboerskloof involving attempted thefts out of motor vehicles.

Earlier in May a patrolling Fidelity ADT armed response officer received a call about suspicious activity in Belle Ombre Road. With the help of police, the officer managed to apprehend two suspects who were seen in a video trying to break into cars parked in Tamboerskloof. They were taken into custody by Cape Town police on a charge of theft from motor vehicle.

Fidelity ADT and the WatchCom team were again called into action a few days later when reports were received of suspicious activity in Military Road. A man was apprehended by Fidelity ADT, and handed over to police in connection with theft from a Toyota Yaris parked in Military Road.

The following day, Fidelity ADT officers were alerted to suspicious activity in Tamboerskloof. An unidentified man was noticed lurking around his parked vehicle in Hastings Road. When the armed response officer arrived in the street, he found the man inside the parked vehicle pretending to be asleep.

The man was searched and found to have several items in his possession which appeared to have been stolen.

He was handed over to police on a charge of theft from a motor vehicle.
