TBKWatch Update: MVAs, Roadblocks and LPR Alerts

From responding to MVAs and supporting roadblocks to tracking down LPR alerts, it’s been an action-packed Heritage Week for our team. 💥1. Kloof Nek HMVA
On Friday morning, we were alerted to a Heavy Motor Vehicle Accident (HMVA) on Kloof Nek. Our Operations Manager arrived on scene to find a box truck lying on its side on the grass embankment between Kloof Nek and Quarry Hill Roads. Fortunately, despite the dramatic scene, no injuries were reported.
The recovery operation took close to seven hours, requiring a second truck to offload the cargo before a heavy recovery vehicle could right and tow the casualty. Our sincere thanks to SAPS, City of Cape Town Metro Police, Traffic Services, Fire & Rescue, and Metro EMS for their prompt response and hours of dedicated on-scene coordination.
👮♀️2. DUI Road Block
On Saturday night, City of Cape Town Metro Police NSOs invited our Operations Manager to join a coordinated DUI roadblock operation in Sea Point. Kicking off just after 22:00 and running until 04:00, the multi-agency operation focused squarely on taking drunk drivers off our roads. Working closely with CoCT Metro Police and Sea Point SAPS, dozens of motorists were screened, resulting in about 13 arrests—with the highest breathalyser reading at three times the legal limit of 0.24 mg/l.

💥3. Kloof Nek Strikes Again
Monday afternoon saw another callout to Kloof Nek Road following a two-vehicle MVA. Our Operations Manager arrived on scene to confirm one motorist had sustained moderate injuries. Working behind the scenes, WatchCom linked with 107 to coordinate with Metro EMS, Metro Rescue, Traffic Services, and Fire & Rescue. Thanks to the swift medical response, the patient was stabilised and transported to hospital, allowing responders to reopen the road quickly. Our thoughts and best wishes for a speedy recovery go out to the injured driver, and we thank all emergency teams on duty.
🕵️♂️4. The LPR Chronicles
On Wednesday, our LPR network delivered a double success. The first alert was triggered in the morning by a vehicle wanted by Pinelands SAPS in connection with an assault. Our team immediately mobilised, got eyes on the car, and vectored in the Metro Police “A-Team” to execute a tactical stop along Helen Suzman Boulevard. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to Pinelands SAPS.
That very same afternoon, Metro Police located a flagged stolen vehicle parked in the Bo-Kaap. Preliminary on-scene inquiries quickly revealed a complex situation involving multiple parties, and the vehicle was transferred to the SAPS Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU) for further investigation. Once again, real-time technology and multi-agency teamwork deliver tangible results, keeping TBK and our broader city safer for everyone.
