The Friday Roundup – SANParks, City and the team

06 February 2026

Hi Neighbours!

And just like that, February has arrived! We have your weekly TBKLand update ready, so grab a brew and get comfortable. We’re also kicking off a special series this week: over the next few updates, we’ll be featuring a “Meet the Team” segment so you can get to know the faces behind the magic.

👮‍♀️

1. Sector Forum Meeting Feedback

We kicked off the year’s first Sector Forum meeting at SAPS this past week, and the news is encouraging! Crime stats for TBK remain consistently low, which is a fantastic start to the year. We also took the opportunity to discuss the rise in rough sleepers within our area. The Senior Inspector from Law Enforcement was very receptive to our concerns and is prioritizing this issue moving forward.

2. SANParks Updates

This past Monday brought a fresh breath of air to our volunteer partnerships with SANParks. We met with all relevant stakeholders in Tokai to discuss the road ahead. We are thrilled to be part of “Operation Vuka” (Wake Up), working hand in hand with SANParks to ensure the mountain and Signal Hill remain safe and accessible places for everyone.

3. TBKWatch and City

On Wednesday morning, we received a report of an individual in distress in Upper Buitengracht. Following nearly 12 hours of continuous intervention—and with the vital support of Law Enforcement, the Department of Social Development, and Metro Ambulance Services—the individual was successfully transported to the hospital for care. A huge thank you goes out to the City and Cllr Higham for their dedicated assistance throughout the day.

3. Fire!

Teamwork in action! After a fire was reported on the CrimeNow group on Thursday morning, our operations manager and FADT W04 rushed to the scene, coordinated by WatchCom. With the help of three proactive members of the public, the fire was extinguished in just under 20 minutes. A huge thank you to all who assisted!

5. Meet the team

Each week going forward, we will introduce one team member who makes TBKWatch run. This week, we are delighted to introduce Sam from WatchCom!

What can I not be found without? My glasses (I’m as blind as a bat) and coffee.

What was your very first job, and what is the most random thing you learned there? I worked in a curly cone van—I learned that money makes the world go round!

If you had to give a 10-minute presentation on something completely unrelated to work, what would it be? I am a mother and definitely have a lot to say about my kids.

What is your productivity fuel—that one snack, playlist, or ritual that gets you through a busy day? Coffee—and lots of it.

What is the best piece of unconventional advice you’ve ever received? “Stay away from boys.” That was from my mother, and she was right! My eyes opened much later—now I have been single for 17 years. Hooray!

6. How can you help?

2025 was a massive year! We levelled up with more cameras, our dedicated TBK 1 patrol vehicle, and a tireless Operations Manager. Now, we’re aiming even higher by working to get TBK 1 on the road 24/7 and planting five new camera “eyes” across the neighbourhood.

You can be a TBK hero by keeping up with your monthly donations—a huge high-five to those already doing so! We’d also love your help in encouraging the other two-thirds of the community to join the team and sharing our success stories far and wide.

See you all at the Community Day on February 14th!
