Cops arrest two

Cape Town SAPS arrested a man on charges relating to assault and housebreaking, following an incident in Tamboerskloof last week.

According to Cape Town South district manager at Fidelity ADT, Jade Hanning, one of their armed response officers was on patrol in the area when he received a report via the Watchcom (Tamboerskloof Neighbourhood Watch) monitoring centre, asking that he investigate a reported assault in Rael Street.

On his way to the address, the officer passed a man along the side of the road who was busy changing his clothing.

“When our officer arrived at the address in Rael Street and spoke to the complainant, he realised that the person he had passed in the street earlier was the suspect in question who had allegedly tried to assault and burgle the homeowner,” said Mr Hanning.

A detailed description of the man, including the clothes he had and changed into was transmitted to local law enforcement and security partners.

The man was located and apprehended a short while later, and handed over into the custody of the SAPS.

“The suspect has been charged with assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm as well as with house breaking. The homeowner was transported to the hospital for treatment of a wound she sustained when she was assaulted,” he said.

Meanwhile, a man was arrested by Cape Town SAPS after he allegedly tried to burgle a restaurant in Kloof Street on the weekend of October 5.

Mr Hanning said they received an alarm signal just after 4am and one of our armed response officers immediately responded.

He said the officer, Siyabonga Mkholakali, was close by and arrived at the address within minutes, where he found the delivery door appeared to have been forced open. One of his colleagues soon arrived as backup and to help search the premises.

“Our officers discovered a bag on the floor with items packed in it, which they suspected was left there by the alleged trespasser.

“Soon afterwards they located the alleged suspect and apprehended him, before calling for police to be sent to the address,” he said.
